Young Leaders & Coaches

The School Sports Partnership believes passionately about the benefits of leadership for every young person, as well as recognise the crucial and beneficial role young people play in delivering school and community sport opportunities for others.

The leadership ladder aims to outline the leadership journey for young people:

Learning to Lead

What makes a good leader?

Leading Participants

Playground Leaders, Leadership Academies, Bronze Ambassadors, and Sports Leaders 1

Leading and Mentoring Others

Sports Leaders 2, Young Coaches Academy

Influencing Others

Young Ambassadors, Health Champions

The leadership learning experience can take place through both primary, and secondary schools, as well as in the community, at both a national and local level. Within each stage of the ladder, young people will have the opportunity to utilise their skills in a range of events and activities. The Leadership journey will enable young people to develop skills for life which will support their future employability.

At Secondary level leadership academies are supported to run within each Secondary school. Within the school setting, students are trained to lead activities within lessons and to support after school activities and primary events. (Leading Participants)

The next step is the being part of the Lead the Way and Young Coaches Academy. Students attend workshops at a county level where they develop key skills and qualities to support being a successful Leader and ultimately a young coach/activator. These skills are then utilised by focusing on the least active back in the school/ community. (Leading and mentoring others).

Ultimately the Young coaches develop as mentors to support fellow students through the leadership pathway.
